The Sports Center and Winter Adventure Programs

Falls Brook Common Sports and Recreation Center

Top-notch upscale exercise facilities welcome you home.

Top-notch upscale exercise facilities welcome you home.

The Sunrise Mountain Village affords owners and guests easy access to vast winter woodland, and a year round Fitness Center, equipped with cardio and strength inducing equipment. Reward and relaxation after an exhilarating day of snowshoe trekking, skiing or riding can be enjoyed in the indoor heated pool, hot tub, sauna, and steam bath.

The indoor pool, hot tub, and exercise room will be re-opening for the Spring season on Saturday, May 24th. Hours of operations are:

Sunday through Thursday - 10:00am-5:00pm
Friday & Saturday - 10:00am-6:00pm

July 4 & 5 - 10:00am-8:00pm

The heated outdoor pool is open for the summer.

Prior to the re-opening the exterior pool we removed the outside hot tub and decking over this area. This action was driven by the fact that the outdoor hot tub/filtration system has aged beyond repair, and replacing it in its existing location is not warranted from either a practical or economic perspective.

Note: At this time, the Sunrise Sports Center is a private facility, available only to owners and guests at Sunrise Mountain Village .

Fitness Center

The Fitness Center is equipped with two treadmills, Cybec Arc Trainer, True Elliptical Trainer, two Cybec C-500 Cycles (one is recumbent), Stair Master PT 4000, a Concept II Rower, the popular Fitness Edge S4 Black Diamond Ski Machine, a Paramount Sports Trainer (eight stations), and free weights.

Snowshoe Trekking and Nordic Skiing

Outdoor exercise and rejuvenation is just out the back door of the Sports Center, which is the start of the Back Country Ski and Snowshoe Trail System. This trail system has been designed and developed by Greg LaBella, our Sports Center Manager, and provides high elevation back country skiing and snowshoe trekking. Nestled in the shadow of Bear Mountain to the north, Smith Peak to the south and Shrewsbury Peak to the west is Sunrise and the Sunrise Trail System. The trail system features 50 kilometers (about 22 miles) of marked trails and 2,000 acres of off trail bushwhacking terrain. The three prominent peaks offer the user great views in a vast, but contained area. Make no mistake; this is a wilderness area, lacking roads and hunting camps, just Madden Brook, Vista Peak, Allen Hill, Sunrise Mountain, and the Sunrise Trail System available to guide you through this unspoiled adventure land.

This area offers the beginner Nordic skier access to gentle and moderate trails, while the advanced skier can set out to several breath-taking spots within Madden Basin. Many trails have been established for snowshoe trekking; they are steep and narrow, and are sure to get the heart pumping.

Sunrise Mountain Village owners enjoy being able to ski-on or ski-off, literally, right in their own back yard.

The Sunrise Trail System is divided into several snowshoe trekking and backcountry skiing areas. These areas vary in difficulty and proximity to the Sports Center. The Cherry Knoll Trails have several loops for snowshoeing only, as these trails are narrow and steep. Venture down to the Falls Brook for a true climbing experience complete with ropes.

There are several village trails in and around Sunrise. These trails are groomed and suitable for novice cross country skiers. Trail loops allow the skier (or snowshoe trekker) to create a variety of routes of varying lengths and difficulty. More advanced cross country skiers will enjoy the Madden Basin Trails located to the south of the village behind Vista Peak. Some of these trail loops are groomed, while others are left in their natural state. Good conditioning and skiing skills are necessary for this rugged terrain.

Vista Peak stands tall in Madden Basin at 2,450 feet. This peak can be accessed by the Vista Peak Trial (Tr. # 12) or by bushwhacking through the woods from anywhere on the Madden Basin Loop (Tr. # 8). Conquering this peak gives you an awesome vista of the surrounding mountains, all over 3,000 feet.

The backcountry trails extend south to the base of Smith Peak and Shrewsbury Peak. A guided trek utilizing the ski lift can enhance this experience, and then changing into snowshoes will allow further exploration as you start to climb into the Shrewsbury-Smith Peak saddle. Take advantage of Greg’s years of walking around in Madden Basin and schedule a guided tour; this is a great way to learn the terrain that is your backyard. Greg has developed a deep love of this terrain and wants to share it with Sunrise owners and guests. We have state-of-the-art equipment available, as a complimentary amenity, including Nordic skis, snowshoes and ice skates.
