Community History
In the early 1980’s, International Paper Company, along with the Hawk Mountain developers, built 172 units at Sunrise Mountain Village. In 1989, the Sunrise Condominium and Sunrise Homeowners Association took managerial control of the Village, buying the existing reception and the Falls Brook Common building and property, and ultimately built out FBC into the complex it is today: Recreation center, reception area, restaurant, and offices. In the late 1990’s, Killington LTD. decided to discontinue operations of the Sunrise chairlift that went from Route 100 in Plymouth to the top of Sunrise Mountain. In order to preserve our ski-on/ski-off access, the Sunrise Homeowners Association bought the lift capability from Killington and built the existing base station here at the Village, making this lift a private and free lift serving our Village, and connecting Sunrise to the Killington Resort area lifts and trails.
In the mid 1990’s International Paper sold the undeveloped land to what later became Bear Mountain Development, LTD., the developers of the Topridge and Lodges complexes. Since then Topridge has grown to 6 single-family homes and 25 duplex buildings, and is still growing. The final phase of development began in late 2003 with the construction of the Lodges’ first building, (Aspen) and soon after, by their second building (Birches). A total of nine buildings are planned as part of the Lodges development efforts. Assuming a full build out, the Sunrise Mountain Village could grow to the 350 units originally planned within the next five to seven years.
